Find and add an author to next year’s HIW Author list.
The Honouring Indigenous Writers Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon first developed its author list from the authors Daniel Heath Justice included in his Twitter campaign, #HonouringIndigenousWriters, where he tweeted an Indigenous author everyday for a year to “…push back against the frequent assumptions that our literary history is any less complex, robust, or diverse than that of other peoples (Daniel Heath Justice, Why Indigenous Literatures Matter?).
Help contribute to growing the diversity and complexity of Indigenous literature by suggesting authors to include in the Honouring Indigenous Writers Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon. However, we cannot guarantee that authors you add will appear on following lists due to our Working in Good Faith on Indigenous Topics Online policy. We appreciate your contributions to our ever-growing list of Indigeous authors, but want to balance our eagerness with the privacy and willingness of the authors.
Instructions
Once you’ve found an author you think should be added to the list, go to the Authors to Add table on HIW’s wikipedia home page.
- Click “Edit Source” next to the Authors to Add heading. You will be taken to the edit source editing box.
- Copy the highlighted text and paste it after the last author on the list, making sure to paste after the final line with the dash.
- Replace “Name of Author” with the name of the author you have chosen. Put the author’s name in double square brackets ([[]]). If the author has a wikipedia article already, it will link directly to it. If not, it will create a red link.
- Replace “Work that needs to be done” with any editing or additions you think should be made to the author’s page.
- Hit publish changes to save your addition!
